It matters on what the OS is of the servers involved.

Normally a virus is not something you have to worry about on UNIX (attacks for D.O.S. or attempts at overflow of buffers on UNIX) but if the email is forwarded to a system running MicroSoft products, then you can infect that system.

can linux get a virus on the boot sec from windows? becuse my buddys computer micro trend cmos virus keeps telling him that there is a boot sec virus on my hdd is that possable or is the box being dumb and looking at the linux boot as a virus? it was set up as a windows box not a linux... virus detection

IS there virus software for unix? I worked in a Solaris environment and dont remember having anything. I also ask because the current enviroment i am working on is Microsoft and they argue that they do not use unix because of virus detection. Any input would be greatly appreciated. (1 Reply)

cpq_mibs - Tru64 UNIX SNMP subagent daemon for Compaq MIBS SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/cpq_mibs DESCRIPTION
The cpq_mibs daemon is the subagent that implements support for the Compaq Tru64 UNIX MIBs. It currently supports the following MIBs: cpqHealth cpqHost cpqScsi cpqStdEq cpqSysInfo cpqNIC This daemon is started and stopped automatically, and in conjunction with the SNMP master agent snmpd; no configuration or user action is required. When servicing requests for these MIBs, unexpected conditions are logged using the syslog function. Together with os_mibs, this daemon provides the SNMP data required by the Insight Manager daemon, insightd. For further information, see the insightd(8) reference page.
