Normally .. on my Unix O/S's.. when setting up "remote" printers the process is fairly straight foward. Your printer is connected to the network via a "system" or "print server". The system can be one of many things... HP JetDirect Card that is internal to the HP Printer, an external print server, or even connected to a computer that is acting as a print server.

Your Unix O/S will need to know how to "find" this peice of hardware... This is normally handled in the arp cache. Where you will tell the arp cache the MAC address of the "system" (The MAC address is the serial number) You should be able to do a "man" on "arp" and get information on how to add this entry to your arp cache.

Add the printer to your O/S spooler and enable it and you should be on your way.
