A quick and dirty way is to use "wget" or another file transfer program like ftp to download a large file (at least several megabytes) from a remote server. Check out the bytes/sec reported. Try it at various times throughout the day to get an average. Alternately, you could use something like Bing. Search
www.freshmeat.net for other possibilities.

i have two questions actually...
i need to block certain ports with openbsd and PF in a large lan, the firewall is supposed to be a router between the internet and the first lan switch.
first of all, would this work at all in theory?
second, i tried doing this a few days ago at a huge lan but i... (2 Replies)

What are my options for monitoring bandwidth on a per user basis? Ideally, I'd like something thats easy to configure (like a webmin module pleeeease?), and that could monitor ALL bandwidth. Hello,
I was wondering how one would go about regulating bandwidth of a server running RH Linux 8.0 and Apache. I am running a webserver, and want only one person to be able to download one file at a time. So, they can't click about 10 files and soak up lots of bandwidth. Plus, I would like to cap... (2 Replies)

ZLASCL
Function/Subroutine Documentation
subroutine zlascl (characterTYPE, integerKL, integerKU, double precisionCFROM, double precisionCTO, integerM, integerN, complex*16, dimension(
lda, * )A, integerLDA, integerINFO)
ZLASCL
Purpose:
ZLASCL multiplies the M by N complex matrix A by the real scalar
CTO/CFROM. This is done without over/underflow as long as the final
result CTO*A(I,J)/CFROM does not over/underflow. TYPE specifies that
A may be full, upper triangular, lower triangular, upper Hessenberg,
or banded.
Parameters:
TYPE
TYPE is CHARACTER*1
TYPE indices the storage type of the input matrix.
= 'G': A is a full matrix.
= 'L': A is a lower triangular matrix.
= 'U': A is an upper triangular matrix.
= 'H': A is an upper Hessenberg matrix.
= 'B': A is a symmetric band matrix with lower bandwidth KL
and upper bandwidth KU and with the only the lower
half stored.
= 'Q': A is a symmetric band matrix with lower bandwidth KL
and upper bandwidth KU and with the only the upper
half stored.
= 'Z': A is a band matrix with lower bandwidth KL and upper
bandwidth KU. See ZGBTRF for storage details.
KL
KL is INTEGER
The lower bandwidth of A. Referenced only if TYPE = 'B',
'Q' or 'Z'.
KU
KU is INTEGER
The upper bandwidth of A. Referenced only if TYPE = 'B',
'Q' or 'Z'.
CFROM
CFROM is DOUBLE PRECISION
CTO
CTO is DOUBLE PRECISION
The matrix A is multiplied by CTO/CFROM. A(I,J) is computed
without over/underflow if the final result CTO*A(I,J)/CFROM
can be represented without over/underflow. CFROM must be
nonzero.
M
M is INTEGER
The number of rows of the matrix A. M >= 0.
N
N is INTEGER
The number of columns of the matrix A. N >= 0.
A
A is COMPLEX*16 array, dimension (LDA,N)
The matrix to be multiplied by CTO/CFROM. See TYPE for the
storage type.
LDA
LDA is INTEGER
The leading dimension of the array A. LDA >= max(1,M).
INFO
INFO is INTEGER
0 - successful exit
<0 - if INFO = -i, the i-th argument had an illegal value.
