Capturing cli Program output
A few years ago I took a C programming class and used both Linux and FreeBSD as my operating systems and gcc as the compiler. I ran a Command-line utility to to capture what happened as I ran the code, the output was saved to a file that I specified when I ran the utility command (that I can't remember the name of
). The file I then printed and turned in as results to my instructor. I am enrolling in another programming class and I can't remember what the command was I used to capture the I/O. I appreciate any help, Thanks.

I have the following line in my script:
$sftpcmd $rmthost <<COMMANDS>> $sftplog 2>&1
For some reason this is not capturing the errors from sftp, they go to the file attached to the cron entry
ie
mm hh dd MM * /myscript > cron.out
any idea why?

Hello,
I would like to capture the password request of a process (like passwd or smbpasswd, ...) from a C/c++ program. My idea was to use pipes, but they capture only the stdout/stdin, not the request itself (e.g. "Enter password for user tom:" is not captured by pipes).

NAME
lastcomm - show last commands executed in reverse order
SYNOPSIS
[commandname] ... [username] ... [terminalname] ...
DESCRIPTION
gives information on previously executed commands. If no arguments are specified, prints information about all the commands recorded in
the accounting file, during the current accounting file's lifetime. If called with arguments, only accounting entries with a matching com-
mand name, user name, or terminal name are printed. For example, to produce a listing of all executions of commands named by user on ter-
minal use:
For each process entry, the following are printed.
o Name of the user who ran the process.
o Flags, as accumulated by the accounting facilities in the system.
o Command name under which the process was called.
o Amount of cpu time used by the process (in seconds).
o What time the process started.
Flags are encoded as follows:
Command was executed by a user who has appropriate privileges.
Command ran after a fork, but without a following
exec.
Command terminated with the generation of a
file.
Command was terminated with the signal
