Modified dates to a file without the cut command

Why can't you use cut? And do you want the filename with the date of last modification?

Hi All.
Can someone please give me an example of how I'd do a comparison to find out if the last modified date of a file is newer than yesterday (i.e. today - 1 day)?
Example:
if ; then
echo "Do something..."
fi

Gets the time of the last modification of the main script of execution. If you're interested in getting the last modification time of a different file, consider using filemtime(3). RETURN VALUES
