Comparing two files and noting matches

IN UNIX: I would be looking at...
The sort, uniq and diff commands.
Without much detail I guess you would have to sort the names in the two files, then diff the two files and use the redirect (>
to write them to a single (3rd) file.
ie diff file1 file2 > file3
Uniq would be used to remove fields that occur more than once, if that is what you want.
Try the man pages!

-compare results with file size passed as parameter too
-when comparison's true --> move file

I have a directory with a large # of files and in each file I am looking to match a string in one file with a string in the subsequent n file(s). If there is a match between a string in one file and a string in the next n file(s) then delete the subsequent duplicate file(s). Here is sample input:

zcmp, zdiff - compare compressed files SYNOPSIS
zcmp [ cmp_options ] file1 [ file2 ] zdiff [ diff_options ] file1 [ file2 ] DESCRIPTION
Zcmp and zdiff are used to invoke the cmp or the diff program on files compressed via gzip. All options specified are passed directly to cmp or diff. If only file1 is specified, it is compared to the uncompressed contents of file1.gz. If two files are specified, their con- tents (uncompressed if necessary) are fed to cmp or diff. The input files are not modified. The exit status from cmp or diff is pre- served. SEE ALSO
