Question dtprofile files et al - what do they do???

I have come across a file in my home account called .dtprofile - I was just wondering what this is for?

What do any of the files in /usr/dt directory do??

Are you running on SunOS, Solaris or AIX? Have you installed CDE?

Appropriate standard settings for CDE are arranged automatically. However, these can be modified in .dtprofile file. The first time you login via CDE, a standard .dtprofile file is created automatically in your home directory.

When the CDE Login Manager logs you in, it calls the CDE session script /usr/bin/dt/Xsession, which reads the file .dtprofile in your home directory. The first time you log in with CDE, a .dtprofile file is copied into your home directory. The default file does nothing, but it contains comments on how it might be edited to change the behavior of your CDE session. The prototype .dtprofile is /usr/dt/config/sys.dtprofile. This file is written in Korn Shell (ksh) syntax. Type man ksh for information about the Korn Shell.

Tools configuration....

I am running CDE on Solaris 2.6 on a Sun ULTRA 1 workstation.

Can(maybe that question should start with 'Should') the amdinistrator of a network edit in anyway these files, or is that something that is automattically done by the workstation/network?
