UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi all,

Having a bit of fun with a very old DGUX box and need help if possible.

Up untill we installed a new UPS today the DGUX has been sat in a corner happily humming away.

It has been rebooted about 3 times in the last six months that i am aware of.

I did the usual "shutdown -y" to power it off this morning before the power outage. When i turned it back on i get an error at SCM prompt.

The error is:

ERROR: Loading data or text section failed

halted! code: 00004021
......................

I have googled everywhere to no avail on all parts of the message and even found the pdf manuals.

I think the problem is possible run out of disk space or file corruption but can not go any further than the SCM prompt.

Does anyone remember any commands that will run in SCM to check disks, edit a file or have an idea of what might be the cause and solution. i have found "format" but this does not allow querying the system.

I am OK to good on most flavours of UNIX/LINUX but this is lower level mechanics than I usual deal with

Any help greatly appreciated.

More likely than not the NOVRAM battery is about to die. May be trying to reboot from the wrong partition.

any idea what the default partition would be?
I think i have the SCM boot commands now so i will search them in the hope.

Does anybody know where I can get a DG-UX machine?

ebay may have some. i will try and find the hardware support contract for ours that may have a company.
