One more question please,

If I need the first line and another line, for example, the line "Grid-ref= " and the second row of each metrix as shown below.

Grid-ref= 443, 229
148 189 228 251 296 329 331 338 308 263 219 179
Grid-ref= 443, 230
142 182 223 248 297 330 331 340 309 263 215 172
Grid-ref= 443, 231
140 177 222 248 299 332 333 343 311 264 212 169
Grid-ref= 443, 232
135 172 217 243 297 329 333 343 309 263 209 164

Could you guide me how I should change the command, please?
I'd be really appreciated with any suggestion.

Many thanks,

Thanks matrixmadham,

Sorry,it didn't work. I wanna save the output to another file. I followed your suggestion and got this following massage.

node138 > awk ' $0 ~ "^Grid" {print > "n1"; getline; getline; print >"n1"}' outfile.txt
awk: cmd. line:2: fatal: cannot open file `outfile.txt' for reading (No such file or directory)

Would you mind to help me, please?

It indicates there was no such inputfile named "outfile.txt"

Could you please verify that? Smilie

So would you please tell me how to put the input and output filename.

Since when I typed --awk ' $0 ~ "^Grid" {print > "n1"; getline; getline; print >"n1"}' inputfile.txt-- there was nothing happening on the file, still exactly the same.

Many thanks,

That was there already in the command I had posted! Smilie

Code:
awk ' $0 ~ "^Grid" { print > "outputfile.txt"; getline; getline; print > "outputfile.txt" }' inputfile.txt

Now I had modified the command for the filenames.

Before the command is executed,
it assumes your input file name is inputfile.txt ( or based on the input file name change the inputfile given to the command )
output of the command will be available in the file named outputfile.txt

Sorry If I have not made it clear! Smilie
