cron is torturing me. (not updating)

Suse 10.1. Cron is running, as confirmed by pgrep cron.

For a user, I do crontab -e, specify a time 2 or so minutes in the future (with time measured with the `date` command).

Crontab -l gives something like

05 15 * * * cd /mydir; ./myscript.sh > old.out

I wait for the command to run. It doesn't run.

IRC group advises me to try running this as

* * * * * /mydir/myscript.sh > new.out

(no cd command, and try every minute).

This seems to work. Then I comment out the second version, uncomment the first version.

I'm expecting either to get old.out, or nothing.

But, I keep getting new.out every minute. It's like, cron doesn't want to update, or updates in an untransparent way.

Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone got an idea of what's happening, or how to get cron to act in a more predictable way?

do you have in the cron which is uncommented as follows ?

Code:
05 15 * * *  /mydir/myscript.sh > new.out
