Connecting as CONSOLE using Telnet.

Hi,

I need to connect as CONSOLE from my WinXP PC to a Solaris server (Solaris 9 SPARC) using telnet. I cannot use HyperTerminal as there is no direct link between my PC and the server (it is a remote server). How to do this?

Regards.

you can connect as many separate terminal sessions to the box as much as your connectivity tools provide ... but --- you have to have a physical device connected to the server's serial port to actually get a console terminal ...

btw, my windows sa showed me that this is not necessarily true for the newer hp windows boxes ... i saw the terminal/console window complete with boot-up messages as the box was being rebooted through a http connection on a rib-board ... pretty darn exciting but i know it down't help here ...

What type of Sparc machine is it (uname -i) ? If it has a RSC/lom/alom/SC board in it it may well be possible.

It is a Netra-T4.

Heres the output for "uname -i": SUNW,Netra-T4.

It has a LOM port and I m able to login as CONSOLE using hyperterminal from one of the WinXP machines that is connected to the server via serial connection. That works fine.

But, I want to connect as CONSOLE from a machine that is not connected via serial cable (via telnet for instance). How to do that?

I remember opening a connection like that before i.e,
  1. No serial Connection was available
  2. Opened a telnet session via some port (telnet hostname port-num)
  3. And, it actually opened a CONSOLE session!
How is that possible.

Thanks.
