whence command used for.

can you please provide the example of whence command.

Hi Coroa688,
In a pure Bourne shell type utility does about the same thing as the Korn shell whence utility which does about the same thing as the C shell which utility which does about the same thing as the POSIX command -v utility or command -V utility.

Most POSIX-conforming shells will support at least one of type, whence, or which in addition to command; current ksh versions support all four of them.

its not a homework. in my code in few areas whence command was used. I could not able identifiy why it used for ?
