Ls -l question

Hi,

When doing ls -l, is it right to assume that all files with the date and time on it are files that are created/modified on the current year?

Is there any way to display the creation/modified date of a file that are not created/modified in the current year?

No, there is no time limit to this. It will display all visible files and directories, no matter how old they are. If you want to limit the output, you might want to look into the options/man page of the find command.
There are plenty of examples here on the forum and on the web.

But it usually will show only the month and year (not the date and time) for files older than six months, I think was the question.

When I read it again in this context, I think you are right Smilie

Actually, ls -l shows month, day, and year for files that are more than 6 months old or are in the future (even by a few microseconds); otherwise month, day, and time of day. (You can get files with a timestamp in the future using touch. It can also happen if you are listing files on networked filesystems where the filesystem's server's clock is not in sync with your local system's clock.)
