How do I mount a new disk on ubuntu linux?
Hello,

I am fairly new to ubuntu and have been learning linux using this distro. I am using Ubuntu 11.04 server.

Recently I added a new HD to the desktop.. however I know I need to mount it,

My question is how would I mount this disk? so I can use it as a drive?

here are my disks, I want to mount and use constantly the 400GB

You want to use sda, right, which is 400gb. Sdb has your OS, so we don't want to touch that. If so here are the steps to use that disk:

1. Layout a filesystem, run mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda1
2. Once FS IS in place, mount it. Edit /etc/fstab and add a line that reads like below
/dev/sda1 /newhd ext4 defaults 0 0
3. mkdir /newhd
4. mount /newhd

I am getting the following..

$sudo mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda1
mke2fs 1.41.14 (22-Dec-2010)
mkfs.ext4: inode_size (128) * inodes_count (0) too big for a
filesystem with 0 blocks, specify higher inode_ratio (-i)
or lower inode count (-N).
