executing a file with "cd"
I have this problem:

Code:
$ pwd
/Users/cosmologist/
$ mkdir Test_directory
$ vi move_to_directory.txt
cd Test_directory/    ## This is the content of the file to illustrate the problem.
$ chmod +x move_to_directory.txt
$ ./move_to_directory.txt
$ pwd 
/Users/cosmologist/

I don't know why the directory is not changed!
(If I do

$ cd Test_directory/

it works, but I am having this problem because I am using "cd" as part of a code it is too painful to de it manually every time. )

When you execute something, it runs it in a separate shell, which has its own current directory. So changing it's directory doesn't change yours.

You have to run the script in your own shell, which you do with
Code:
. programname

You don't have to set it executable to run it this way, by the way.
