Need help replacing quotes

Hello, I have an array as an output that looks similar to this:
Code:
['9', '*', '(', '11', '+', '5', ')', '*', '7']

Is it possible to remove all of the single quotes from the integers and leave them on the operators so that the output would be:
Code:
[9, '*', '(', 11, '+', 5, ')', '*', 7]

Any help would be appreciated.

Try...
Code:
awk -F, -v c=\' '{for(i=0;++i<=NF;){if($i ~ /[0-9]/){gsub(c,x,$i)}}}1' OFS=,

Malcolm, the code you supplied doesn't quite work. I should note that the array is stored as follows:

LI = ['9', '*', '(', '11', '+', '5', ')', '*', '7']

When I try running your command, I get an error saying missing a '(' I checked the parenthesis and they seem to match up.

First of all, check how you define an array?

Malcolm,
The array seems to work fine. When I do a print statement, it's return the array just fine.

Can you show the whole code how you are printing the array and running the awk statement?

Sure. I am actually writing the code in python and importing unix libraries/syntax.
Code:
while get_expression():
	t = get_next_token()
	LI1 = [] #creates an array of tokens
	LI = [3, '*', '(', 9, '+', 4, ')', '*', 5, ''] #hardcoded for testing purposes.
	while t:
		LI1.append(t)
		t = get_next_token()

	LI1.append('')
	os.system("awk -F, -v c=\' '{for(i=0;++i<=NF;){if($i ~ /[0-9]/){gsub(c,x,$i)}}}1' OFS=$LI1")
	print "Actual Parse:"
	print LI1

The os.system normally allows for me to use unix commands in python.
