Well we have all been at teh stage where we wonder what to start with
I foudn it is best to learn and use a few different distro's. Before you setup and stick with one distro. Install a few of the common distro's. Like Suse, Mandrake, Fedora, BSD and maybe some others.
That way at least you get the feel of several different distro's and you can work out for yourself which one you like. Everyone will choose a distro's because they like it for their own reasons.
Personally I run Suse. Though I've played with most distro's before I realised I prefer Suse over the others.
