how come you keep saying "concept" I thought the Mach kernel was what you download from the Carnegie Mellon University website? Smilie

Yes, that was the original Mach, but development on that was halted in 1994. But the concept for this type of microkernel goes by the same name, and is implemented as GNU Hurd, or the MacOS X kernel for example.

OSF/1 and Tru64 UNIX were Mach kernels also.
