UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

So... I'm using lynx on a Mac... I didn't know that the whole dang thing is in Terminal? I rarely use terminal. I can't even figure out how to start the thing up. I type in

into it and press enter... And the cursor just goes down. Nothing happens like the FAQ websites describe. I feel so stupid asking this here, but I'm googling everything and nothing is helping?!

what are you trying to archive? I would not recommend to use lynx for simple browsing if you are not forced to. Nowadays most websites contain graphical information, which can not be displayed on a character only browser...

I guess lynx is presenting you a blank page.
Either invoke lynx with an URL as argument or use the "go" command (press g and then enter the URL).

That's rather the point of Lynx's existence; it's a minimal web browser that can be used in a nongraphical system or situation. If it had to open a window, that'd defeat the purpose. If you want a graphical one, a Mac probably has Safari.

... I knew that it wasn't graphical. I just didn't know about all the commands. Now if someone could answer my question...??? I type in the stuff the other dude said and nothing happens. I press enter and nothing...

Nothing at all? Does it print an error message?
