Unix Jobs

i was thinking of going into a job that involves working with UNIX but i can't find any jobs like that. i heard of being a UNIX admin. but i don't know what that means. could someone post a couple of jobs involving UNIX and what you do during that job thanks

Also, check out the book "The Practice of System and Network Administration" by Tom Limoncelli and Christine Hogan. It is a fantastic book on the subject, and it has a section on "What is system administration" which answers the exact question you asked better than I ever could.

thnx for your replies. i've been searching and theres nothing that specifically sais what skills i would need to become a UNIX admin or some other job like that. do you know anything in paticular i need to know before i even consider thinking about becoming an Admin?

this topic is not unix related. It is career releated.

If you are looking for where to start then start in the FAQ section of this site and you will hopefully find answers or pointers leading the right direction.

There is no "how to become an unix admin" book. its just something you decide to do and you learn as much as you can about and start at the bottom of the chain and work your way up.

IE: destop support

exit unix, but says running jobs

hi, i give a exit to the system, but it says that i have running jobs... so i do a ps and it displays two lines, one is a -ksh and the other is the ps which i am issuing... then i give a who -uH, find my pts.. then do a grep... still the same..... whats wrong.. (6 Replies)
