UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I am new to UNIX, and am designing a hierarchical Tree
I am using mkdir -p "filename" to create the main file, what do I use to create the subfolders and make a .txt document in the subfolders. Then after that is done i need to do it over again. How should this look. Am I doing it right?

This sounds like homework. If so, you should following the directions and use the homework forum.

mkdir will create directories, not files in which you can add content. The "-p" option allows you to create a target directory and all required parent directories. For example, say I start with an empty directory called /dir1. If I wanted to create /dir1/dir2/dir3, I could type "mkdir -p /dir1/dir2/dir3" and both dir2 and dir3 would be created. To create an emplty text file, type "touch /dir1/dir2/dir3/textFile.txt" then you can add content to the file. You can also create a text file with any text editor or by redirecting any other text into the file.
