Maybe it is the beginner's luck? Smilie

the version of mine is:

GNU sed version 4.1.2
Copyright (C) 2003 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

Thanks.

I also have GNU sed.

Code:
$ echo -e "a\nb\nc\nd\ne" | sed 's%\n%%'
a
b
c
d
e
$

Don't know what to tell you.

@phil918
Please post your exact version of unix (or Linux if you have posted this in the wrong forum).

Just read post #6. As this is tcsh I must back off. I have never found a reason to run csh or its variants in a production environment.

Corona688 is right. In this case "tr" is a better tool than "sed".

This command from post #1 is still a syntax error imho.

I don't think that this thread can go much further unless you state which Operating System and version you have (not just version of "sed") and what you are actually trying to achieve.
