Xemacs and emacs

Hi guys
What is the difference between Xemacs and emacs. I assumed Xemacs runs only in X11.
What about in Linux on KDE? Am I running Xemacs or emacs. Well it says emacs though.
What is the advantage of one over other?
What can I run on OS X ?

So, what should I use. I have a linux and one mac OS X machine. I would like to use the same program on both.
By the way, what do you guys use. Also I use terminal to access my remote UNIX accounts. so I need to use emacs there as well./
So what is the best bet for me?

After reading the document, you have to decide what's best for you...
I use emacs... but it's a personal choice... test both and decide...

saurya_s,

I use OS X with a finked KDE desktop sometimes just to mess around check some things out. Have you ever used FINK? Anyway, I ask because there are various emacs that you can run from a KDE environment on top of OS X that I am sure will work with KDE on top of Linux---KDE version X.X.X is the same regardless if you are running on top of OS X or Linux. And KDE comes with at least one pre-installed I think.

That might give you the continuity that are you looking for.

Of course there is always the OS X CLI emacs. I spent about 2 weeks last fall (at work--shh, don't tell anyone) reading the tutorial and learning what I could. Emacs might just be the most intimidating thing I've used, but that's just because of its plethora of capabilities.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Later,
Vard

yup I have got xemacs thru fink.
I wanted to run natively on Aqua, so I installed Mindlubes emacs and Xemacs as well. however, none of them support remote file saving opening, ftp etc.
The one builtin mac os works well with these. Like you , beacuse of the immense power of emacs , i want to be reasonably good with it. Also I access UNIX machines ,so it will be really handy.
On Linux, things are lot easier as there are lots of editors and I have got BBedit for OSX.
UNIX uses thru terminals is making me to learn emacs and I think I will be ok in long term.
