Space occupied by core

Guys,

Can some one help me?
I need to find the total percent of space occupied by core files on my unix system.

I know df -k will give me the percent space utilization for a directory but how do we replicate the space for a file?

Get a system wide value for storage space total in blocks

Code:
find / -name core -exec ls -s {} \; | awk '{sum+=$1} END {print sum}'

Unless you are on an old system V box, core files are bad. If this is production, you have REALLY serious issues if there are core files strewn everywhere. There is the file space issue, which is minor, but the fact that production code aborts is of major concern: security-wise, data integrity - example: partial transactions with corrupt data.

Suggest you use the "file" command to identify core files. There are files and directories called "core" on many unix systems which are not core dumps. For example (as hinted above) there is a kernel package called "core" on unix System V systems and numerous examples on other unix variants.
