UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Dear All ,

Kindly i need to know some info about IBM AIX unix . I used to work with Solaris , now i need to know about AIX and get certification .. AM sun solaris admin .

First of all i need to know where from i can get AIX cd's to install them ,, should i have RS6000 server ??? am a home user or i need it for personal use ,,, and i can not buy RS6000 SERVER !!!

is there a method i can intall AIX on intel ? like solaris ??

can anyone give me good sites about aix , where from i can collect info about it ?

You cannot run AIX on intel... There was Project Monterey from IBM and SCO to run AIX on Intel Itanium, but IBM ended this project on 2001.

You have a lot of AIX documentation available online here http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/aix/library/ , and you have some information from IBM if you are a Solaris sysadmin and want to use AIX http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver...paign=103AFW03 .

I'd try to find one that includes media. AIX doesn't have a RTU liscence that comes with hardware purchase like Solaris does. IBM wants $999 per copy of their operating system. Which version are you trying to get certification for? Their are two versions that are widely used: 4.3.3 and 5L.

i need to be certified either 5l or the 4.3.3 ,,, i need the administration certification .

but the problem now is how to apply and make AIX enviroment . this is a problem ain't it !

Read the documentation and try to get a AIX shell... there're some providers, but I think you'll have to pay...
