What i have to do to b'com UA??

Hi...
I am newbie here, just registered. This is my first thread and first post as well. I am a student belongs to IT field. In this period of exhaustion, I have decided to learn UNIX and become Unix administrator. I want your valuable guidance from scratch, i mean for learning Unix firstly i have to install UNIX on my desktop to do practice. So where i can get free UNIX to download. I am using Ubuntu along with Windows 7. Will it be helpful? From where i should learn UNIX......books, Online Source, etc? I want to achieve practical knowledge....i don't want to learn boring theory contents. SO please help me in this regard.....

Thank You

Well, Linux is fun to learn as well ! And most distros have a huge fan following with dedicated question/answer forums for your help.

About how to prepare your system to run Unix, you could check out FreeBSD or Solaris and replace the Ubuntu in your dual boot system by one of these Unices. A simple google search will show several links to installation steps. (The simplest approach would be to just wipe out Windoze altogether !)

Achieving practical knowledge entails learning boring theory contents. One classic Unix book for newbies is "The Unix Programming Environment" by Brian Kernighan and Rob Pike.
