find a corrupt tar file
Hey there I am just looking for a way to find a corrupt tar file. I want to write a script to help sift through the 1000's of tar files we go through daily and move any corrupt ones to a different directory structure. Is there an easy way to do this.

a long method is to extract the files in some temp dir. if you coluld extract all the files, assume that the tarball is intact. you'd want to compare the extracted files to the original ones, if you wanted to be very sure.

or try VeriTAR (i haven't tried it myself)

One simple way if you can,

1. find and store the md5sum of the tar files which are in good state.
If you can, you are done with this one time task.

2. Find md5sum for the tar every time, and compare it with the stored md5sum.

Thus you can ensure the state of the tar files.
