How can I tell when an SFTP has finished copying a file?
If I download a file via SFTP how can I tell when the process is completed? Is there a process that I can monitor?

How can I determine that the download process has completed?

I need to process the file and move it to another directory but I don't want to process the file until it has finished downloading.

you can do

scp hostname:/file /localdir ; if [ $? -ne 0 ] ; then echo "download failed"; else echo "file succesfully copied"; /path/to/another/script ; fi

or simply

scp hostname:/file /localdir ; /path/to/another/script

if you are sure the copy step is succesful

if you are sure the copy step is succesful
using SCP is easier because you can watch the file being copied over. SFTP and SCP are "similar" but not exactly the same thing.
