Question NOTICE: Stp: SCSI tape 0 device 46/0 not ready

We need more info before we can help. What are you trying to do, what happens etc.. Read a few posts from other users to get a feel for what I'm talking abuot.

I took this error message from a Log, but at other clients I've seen this error is when they try to make backup with a SCSI tape drive @ Unix O/S and they can't do it.

Are you saying the only problem is you see this error in your log? If it's not stopping you from getting work done, it's probably not worth spending any more time on.

Okay, I read the error again and I can say with even more confidance that you can ignore it.

NOTICE: <- this means it's a notice, not an error

Tape ... not ready <- This is probably a temporary state, like the tape is rewinding or something.

If your backups are working, ignore this error.

Can't perform backup, I was clear in my last reply. If you have any solution then post.

SCSI tape on Openserver 5.0.6

Running into an interesting problem here: I can add the tape with "mkdev tape" the system appears to see it wwith "hwconfig -hc" however a 'tape status /dev/rStp0' says 'no device found', checked the configuration files in 'etc' all appear to be correct. Any suggestion appreciated Jim (3 Replies)
