Just to elaborate on what RTM is telling you.

The PTR records are not a 'simple' list. The number preceeding the
IN PTR test.xpresstest.com.

is the least significant part of the ip address, if the ip is 10.10.10 then the number preceeding the IN should be 31.

rtm was right on. thank you. i made the proper changes and all is well.
i had to redo my db.192.168.1 file (reverse lookup).

/var/named/db.192.168.1

test# more db.192.168.1
1.168.192.in-addr.arpa IN SOA test.test.com. root.test.test.com. (

7200; Refresh timer
3600; Retry timer
604800; Expire after one week
86400; Minimum timer 1 day
)

1.168.192.in-addr.arpa IN NS test.test.com.

1.168.192.in-addr.arpa IN PTR test.test.com.
