Sending mail outside the intranet

hi Everybody

while using the mail command , i sent a mail within the organization, it worked perfectly.
Example of mail id

victor@dev.unix.com

But when i gave the mail command outside the intranet it failed and no responses of acknowledgement

this is the example of mail id

victor@unix.com

Will you please help me know, what could be the reason for which the mail is being recieved by the intranet (within organization) and not external

Thanks in advance

Victor Vinod

Post your OS and version. Check your messages file for errors (check your syslog.conf or appropriate file for where mail error messages are logged).

Removed your syslog.conf since it has IP addresses in it.

Your syslog.conf showed "/var/log/maillog" as the file that has all the mail messages - check it for errors while sending email outside your internal network by opening a second window/session and do a tail -f /var/log/maillog and watch for errors when you attempt to send mail.

Bug Error message in the syslog

Hi,

Thanks for Removing the syslog.conf

Yes , When i sent the mail, The Error messages were indeed stored in var/log/maillog"
This is the following error message which i have recieved , but i am not able to understand what exaclty it says except for connection timed out.

I have removed the original IP Address

The message in maillog:

Quote:
May 24 09:45:47 scmtest sendmail[8118]: j4NDHOJL007463: to=<ajaykumarn@visualsoft-tech.com>, ctladdr=<user1@scmtest> (503/505), delay=14:58:23, xdelay=00:01:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=1380324, relay=visualsoft-tech.com. [192.192.16.12], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection timed out with visualsoft-tech.com.
I was able to successfully ping to the above IPADDRESS 192.192.16.12.(Even though this is the dummy ipaddress mentioned here , I was able to ping to the original IPADDRESS.

I hope the Best

Thanks & Regards

If the .com you were sending to is accurately posted, I could do a lookup of both the mx records and the ptr records of the mail exchanges listed. I could also telnet to port 25 from my home pc but not from my server at work. Is this the only place you can't seem to send email to or are you getting connection timeouts for multiple locations?

REply

it is accurately posted , i have only changed the IPADDRESS ,rest every thing is exactly as it is .
The connection timeouts are given for all the locations of .com
