cat binary file -> terminal gibberish
I've used *nix systems for some time now and have frequently seen a terminal turn to gibberish after using cat or more on a binary file. I'm sure many others have also noticed this. Normally, I just exit the terminal, but I would like a better solution. Certainly there is some way to "reset" a terminal after it has been gibberized. Anyone know of such a solution?
thanks to anyone who can put an end to this nag |

Give xrefresh a try when that happens. xrefresh will repaint the screen if my memory serves me right. Im like you though, I usually close out and reopen a new terminal cause I never seem to remember this command

xrefresh is a no-go, but it does make the screen flash for a nanosecond

going into and exiting vi doesn't work for me. Neither does "tput reset", "reset", or "tset"
Do these commands actually work for you guys? I found this bizarre solution somewhere on the net, press Ctrl-v then Ctrl-o and Enter This actually works, but doesn't make any sense to me. Any ideas? |
