Unable to mount disk

I am running Ubuntu Server, I recently added a new hard drive to the machine

When I run fdisk -l I see both drives.

The recently added drive is present but it's listed as extended.
when I try to mount the drive it says you must specify the file system type.

I can't mount this drive, I was thinking I format it as ntfs and mount it, but using the server (not gui) i am not familiar with the tools..

any ideas on how I can

a) format the drive as ntfs
b) I should be able to mount it after
c) I will add it to the fstab for mount on boot

before we mount any drive we must specify a filesystem to it
following code may help you cheers

Code:
[root@redhat-testpc ~]# mkfs --help
mkfs.ext2: invalid option -- -
Usage: mkfs.ext2 [-c|-t|-l filename] [-b block-size] [-f fragment-size]
        [-i bytes-per-inode] [-j] [-J journal-options] [-N number-of-inodes]
        [-m reserved-blocks-percentage] [-o creator-os] [-g blocks-per-group]
        [-L volume-label] [-M last-mounted-directory] [-O feature[,...]]
        [-r fs-revision] [-R options] [-qvSV] device [blocks-count]

Can you post the output of fdisk -l for the new disk instead of just describing it? Extended partitions usually contain logical partitions, and seldom exist on their own.

Besides, if you're using Ubuntu Server, why do you want to format it as NTFS instead of a native filesystem?
