E4500 Raid

I have a Sun E4500 with some disk attached. Right now, everything is RAID 0 (no mirroring, RAID 5, etc.). Each disk (all 33.6 G) have 1 slice on them. Is it possible to put in RAID 0 or RAID 5? How much data would we lose by doing this? Is it even possible? What software would I use? It is running Solaris 8 and Oracle 9i.

You could use Solaris Volume Manager to set up mirroring, but I can't remember if it does Raid 5. Most production Sun boxes I have ever worked on use Veritas software (Foundation Suite or Volume Manager) to handle their disks, and you can definately do Raid 5 with that.

If your disks are in a Sun array like an A5200 or D1000 there may be hardware raid options available as well. If it's just a diskpack or similar that won't be an option. Check docs.sun.com for install/user guides for your model of array to see what it can do.

with the solstice's disk suite aka. solaris volume manager you could also create a raid 5, but there is no way to migrate a raid 0 to 5. you would have to backup the data, recreate a new raid level and restore the data....

both of them don't have a HW-RAID.
