Solaris 9 on x86- Can't detect network interface

Hi All,

I recently installed Solaris 9 on my Compaq Presario V2000 Series (V2069CL) laptop. Everything is working fine except that Solaris is not able to detect the Network Interface after boot.

While the system is booting, it shows that it has detected "Xircom Pocket Ethernet parallel port card" and I look in the master database and found that the device name for this interface is "pe" but there is no such device called 'pe" inside my device directory. I even tried plumbing the interface but it still cant detect my ethernet card. Am i doing something wrong? Are there any special device drivers I need to install? I hope someone replies. Even the command prtconf -D doesnot show the network device.

Hey,

you need a driver for your network card.
Take a look at this link:

Try booting this cd-rom to see if your card is supported:

Hi Guys,

Thank you for ur replies. I figured out what the problem was. Solaris was detecting "Xircom Pocket Ethernet parallel port card" when it was booting. But my laptop never had this NIC card in the 1st place. I then got an idea of finding out what NIC card was installed on my laptop.

While the system was booting, i changed the boot options in BIOS to boot from Network rather than the "disk". When the system was rebooted, it showed the NIC name which was "Realtek 81xx adapater" So I went to the http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/ site, downloaded the driver and followed the instructions and plumbed the interface. It worked and now I can used the internet and connect to the system remotely.

Obviously I was looking at the wrong NIC which could not be found on the system. I realized my mistake. Thank you guys for ur help too...
