Python 3.1.2 installation on Solaris 10

Hello all,

Need help trying to install python 3.1.2. Running solaris 10 on sparc architecture with pre-existing python 2.3 installation. tried installing the newer version with pkgadd, which looked fine but then I found that I have issues with libraries. Importing zlib, ftplib, socket, or sqlite3 will complain all get complaints and fail because of libraries I.E 'libxxx.so.x'. I can't post the exact error messages until next week cause I wont be at work till then.

I'm new to my job and finding that I have to work on solaris more often then I should, even though my job description doesn't exactly cover sys admin. To make things a bit more interesting I asked to use python for the tasks that I've been asked to complete and was given the green light. I really hope someone could give me some solid pointers on how to approach this.

Just check sunfreeware.com, setup a free account and grab the dependencies for your package. If you're new to Solaris, I'd recommend you consider using WinSCP to help with transferring files in and out. Plus, it makes editing things easier in some cases.
