Installing Solaris 8 (x86) on PC
Hi,

I have installed Solaris 8 on a PC, but I can not get the 2nd CD to install. I can log in to CDE desktop, by the way, is just black and white. I can mount the 2nd install CD, and double-click on the installer, but it does not install. Someting displays in the console and then it disappears so fast that I can not see what it said. Do, I have to use the 2nd Solaris 8 installation CD in order for Solaris 8 to function. I do recognize that i have no man pages, and no gzip. I'm wondering if these items are on CD 2. If so, how can I install 2nd CD?

Go to a command line login session and run the installer from there, at the very least you'll be able to see the error message(s).

Installing Solaris x86 through an external DVD drive through the USB port...

Is there a way to install Solaris 10 x86 with an external DVD drive that connects through the USB port? I would think I would run GRUB off of a floppy disk and somehow use that to make it look to the USB port to boot from but I don't know how to do that. Can anyone help me out? (1 Reply)
