Unable to use same disk for creating two metadevicse

Hi ,

I tried creating two metadevices from same disk , but using different slices
it gave me an error saying that the new device overlaps with the earlier metadevice.
is there any rule that we cannot use same disk for two metadevices.

first i tried creating a concatenated volume from a slice having database replica on the other slice of same disk...it dint work, later i took other disk and repeated the process but this time it was not database replica but a volume.

help!!

Regards,
Laxxi

It's acceptable to have two different metadevices on one disk (also very very common and entirely sensible).
It's acceptable but stupid to have two different submirrors of a single mirror metadevice on one disk.
It's acceptable but somewhat inefficient to have two different slices on the same disk in a single concat or stripe metadevice.
It's much the same story with DB replicas too.

As DukeNuke2 hints, you probably have an overlapping partition on that disk. The command (s)he mentions will show this up nicely (although be sure to pass it the name of the disk in question when you run it).
