so i would say the user home is mounted via NFS and has the snapshots...

Ok, I'm not sure how to /filesystem/.zfs/snapshot
The .snapshot directory is in my home folder on a network (NFS) share.

you are right. My home directory is on a NFS share. Your last comment didn't fix my issue but it help me think in the right direction. Thanks

Ok, I figured it out.
I'm running Solaris 10. The File or directory was on a NFS share. That Share is hosted on a NetApp device. The NetApp was creating the snapshots, that is why I guesses Solaris 10 commands where not working. I talked to SAN admin and it's fixed now.

Why do you want to delete them ? Whether provided by ZFS, WAFL or whatever, snapshots are a very useful feature.

I wanted to delete them because they showed up on the system scans as vulnerability. I'm in charge of riding all systems of vulnerabilities. If the permissions stayed the same it wouldn't matter but the files in the snapshot where to open.

Who on earth would want to delete a snapshot, these take up a minimum of space and are so valuable.

But if you are really determined to get rid of them then I suggest that you look at the zfs destroy option!

There already gone. And as I stated they where NetApp snapshots not Solaris ZFS snapshots.
