new sun boxes

Hi,

we plan to purchase new sun solaris server M4000 for oracle erp as we have old servers we want to upgrade it with new servers and would like to know query related to it.

1)what is Operating system version will comes with new servers and bit size either 32 bit or 64 bit??

2)bit size would be depend on our requirement like we can say while placing an order that we need 32 bit operating system or only 64bit is the default Operating system in new server .

Regards

Those M4000 come with ULTRA64 processors so you'll be getting a 64-bit OS with your new hardware, most likely the latest release of Solaris 10 (8/11), unless you request a specific version when you place your order (e.g: Solaris 11).

You'll still be able to run 32-bit software, though.

Also, oracle will install as 64 bit in Solaris 10/11, but you can do a binary copy of existing application (not oracle) executalbe image files -- assuming you are going from solaris 8/9. Those 32 bit app executables you have will port 100% from earlier versions of Solaris.
