Yes. I want to find out only file name.
Example: which file contains my name as Mani
lot of sub directory also available.

Does the file name contain Mani, or does the file itself contain that string? Or should both be checked? You might want to read How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

Try this command out...this will list the filenames that has your name.

find / -type f -exec grep -l Mani { } \;

Find files older than 20 days & not use find

I need to find files that have the ending of .out and that are older than 20 days. However, I cannot use find as I do not want to search in the directories that are underneath the directory that I am searching in. How can this be done?? Find returns files that I do not want. (2 Replies)
