You should. You are running in a virtualized environment. Knowing how much RAM the underlying hardware has installed might be misleading in such case as both the physical and virtual memory available to a zone can be capped by configuration.

The doc on that link seems to say you can cap physical mem (a daemon frees your pages if you go over -- seems a bit late and lame) and many other VM related things like heap size and address space; see table 6-1 of the pdf version. You could seriously gut the power out of a system if these settings were too paranoid, and since zones are out in the paranoid direction . . . .

Additionally, each zone has its own swap limitations.

Here is information on solaris zones. Concept was introduced in Solaris 10.

Sounds great for schools, but I am not sure I buy it for UNIX as a production mainframe -- too fiddly. Good for SA employment tweaking every little thing by hand, and selling more hardware as it chokes apps. Once upon a time, UNIX was great because you just ran stuff, and it all shared and ran fast!

You would be surprised then, how many small and big companies are using it for production systems, with very good results Smilie

Out of Memory error when free memory size is large

I was running a program and it stopped and showed "Out of Memory!". at that time, the RAM used by this process is around 4G and the free memory size of the machine is around 30G. OS is not detected CPU and memory

Hi, Server AIBVRFCC failed POST while booting on 06/28/2009. Server is up, but OS cannot see two CPUs (CPU 0 and CPU 2) and half of the installed system memory (8 GB is physically installed but only 4 GB is seen by OS now). bld00016:root psrinfo 1 on-line since 06/28/09 05:51:36 3 on-line...
