file identification

Can anyone identify what this file is for?

241436 Dec 17 16:29 dtdbcache_:0

Is it necessary?
My system is at 94% and I am trying to clean / directory
as much as possible.

Any other files I can set to dev/null besides messages, and the
wtmp and wtmpx? Please and Thanks.

Not sure exactly what it does, but it is obviously used by dt/CDE. I imagine you have dtlogin running. Is the file being used by any process? Read the manpage for fuser.

Cheers,

Keith

File is a cachefile for sppeding up CDE applications. My guess you are running Gnome right ?

dtdbcache sets up a cache to speed up CDE programs that use actions such as dtfile.
If this cache is not set up, CDE applications that use actions run more slowly. To turn this feature on, you can start this program manually or by launching the program from a startup script. Perform the following actions:

Log in as root, then edit the following file: /usr/dt/config/Xsession.Sun-gnome-2.0-fcs and change line
"export SDT_NO_DTDBCACHE ..... "

As default the caching is turned ON for performance.
