Install Solaris 10 5/09 on D620

I want to install Solaris 10 5/09 version on my antediluvian D620 latitude, which had BIOS A04 a day before.

I have downloaded “Solaris 10 5/09 version” from Sun website.
Currently, I am running Windows XP home edition SP2 on C drive and, as people say that Solaris does not take extended partition, I want to install Solaris 10 on primary partition.

Here are those I've got from forum:
  • I have to disable “Multi Core processor” from BIOS > Performance
  • Need updated BIOS. Currently A10 is available on Dell website, though I have upgraded to A05.
  • ...Let me know if you have any more info...

Can I install Solaris 10 5/09 on VMware workstation 6.5 or do I need VMware server?

I had tried to install Solaris 10 on vmware workstation but, later on, it did not fetch “available disk space” and suspended operation infinitely.

Finally, is it risky to depend on latest versions of products such as Solaris 10 5/09 and vmware workstation 6.5? Because I have erstwhile D620, which was bought on September 2006 and never had been updated till now.

Well I have downloaded Oracle 11g version for Linux x86 - probably this wont work too.............. L

I'd be suprised if Solaris 10 for Intel (x86) was troubled by multiple cores or CPU's but then I am not a Solaris for Intel expert.

Can't comment on VMWare apart from I have used Solaris 10 for Intel running in VMware on an ESX server but that would not surprise you.

As far as running Linux applications on Solaris for Intel it can be done, take a look at:
Sun's Linux Offerings - Compatibility: lxrun
and:

Better double-check this against Sun's documentation @ Solaris 10 5/09 Release and Installation Collection - Sun Microsystems
