Help with Sed
Hi All,

Based from the following string, is there a way to parse the 4th value after the occurrence of / character?

For example:

"hostname /exp/jump/SH_REL_NO/FOLDER_A.daily/boot/Solaris_10 10.10.120.32"

I need to get the value FOLDER_A


I tried the following command, but its removing all the occurrence of /.

echo "hostname /exp/jump/SH_REL_NO/FOLDER_A.daily/boot/Solaris_10 10.10.120.32" | sed 's/\(.*\)\///'
Solaris_10 10.10.120.32

Thanks in advance for the help.

How about awk:

 echo "hostname /exp/jump/SH_REL_NO/FOLDER_A.daily/boot/Solaris_10 10.10.120.32" | awk -F "/" '{ print $5 }'

Solaris might have to use nawk

this can be done withe single awk but right now i am not able to figure it out Smilie

i made a script to update a lot of xml files. to save me some time. Ran it and it replaced all the the files with a 0kb file.
