find and "-print" switch
I would like to know what is "-print" switch for. I read the man page but still I don't understand why we need that switch.

-print is always true.

try

find .

It will produce output. So do you think -print has to be there?

If for some odd reason you think you want to suppress output -

find .  ! -print

still generates output....

But what exactly does it mean? The same sentence is in man page and that's what i don't get..

I'm confused if I summarize your post then:

print is a shell built-in to output char to screen or window
If you dont wish to see any output, just pipe it to >> /dev/null 2>&1

Yes, it is useful always..
In a case where you may want to find where a particular string is , within your whole OS or filesystem, it will point you out the exact path
eg
find /opt -type f -print |xargs grep -i <pattern>
try something for yourself

@incredible: I tried your command with and without -print and nothing changed. So I still don't see the difference. I use Linux - may that be a problem? But still thank you for helping me :-)

Find lines with "A" then change "E" to "X" same line

I have a bunch of random character lines like ABCEDFG. I want to find all lines with "A" and then change any "E" to "X" in the same line. ALL lines with "A" will have an "X" somewhere in it.
