I don't have gawk installed, so I can't use the first one. I tried the third one and didn't get any results other than the same strings that were in the sftplist.txt.

On the second script suggestion, could you please make it a little more compact. It is too wordy. Just kidding of course. That was excellent. It worked fantastic. It not only cleaned up the crappy stuff I had, but also eliminated other sed and awk statements that I was using to cleanup the users file afterwards. It took 15 lines of script and compacted them into 1. Your suggestion is greatly appreciated. I don't know how else to thank you other than to say Thanks a lot! Keep up the good work.

don't forget to use nawk instead of awk if you're on Solaris
