Question Need Help... to extract the substring

> tnsping $TWO_TASK | grep HOST
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.12.10.212)(PORT = 1540)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = OMTST15)))

I want to extract like this

HOST = 10.12.10.212
PORT = 1540
SERVICE_NAME = OMTST15

I tried... this

tnsping $TWO_TASK | grep HOST | cut -d '(' -f6 | cut -d " " -f3 | cut -d ")" -f1 | read HOSTNAME
tnsping $TWO_TASK | grep HOST | cut -d '(' -f9 | cut -d ')' -f1 | cut -d " " -f3 | read SID
tnsping $TWO_TASK | grep HOST | cut -d '(' -f7 | cut -d ')' -f1 | cut -d " " -f3 | read PORT

Now, TNS entries... are not in the same format... so there must be a better way doing this...

Pls Help !!!!!

Try this:

Code:
tnsping $TWO_TASK | awk -F"(|)" '/HOST/{print $6;print $8;print $14}'

Use nawk, gawk or /usr/xpg4/bin/awk on Solaris.

try this script,dude:
Code:
cat host.t | tr "(" "\n" | tr ")" "\n" > host.t2
sed -ne '/HOST/ p' -ne '/PORT/ p' -ne '/SERVICE_NAME/ p' host.t2 >> host.f
rm -f host.t2

Alternate script:
tnsping $DATABASE |
awk '{FS="[()]+";for(i=1;i<=NF;i++) if($i ~ /(HOST|PORT|SERVICE_NAME)/) print $i}'

Tools Another, albeit strange, approach

And one that works with only specific versions of grep

Code:
> cat file2
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.12.10.212)(PORT = 1540)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = OMTST15)))

> cat file2 | sed "s/(/~(/g" | tr "~" "\n" | tr -s ")" | sort | /usr/xpg4/bin/grep -e"HOST" -e"PORT" -e"SERVICE"
(HOST = 10.12.10.212)
(PORT = 1540)
(SERVICE_NAME = OMTST15)
