Question Archiving

Hi,

I want to archive below directory
ex: /home/oracle/dd0
sub-directories in dd0
/home/oracle/dd0/backup/backup1
/home/oracle/dd0/backup/backup2
/home/oracle/dd0/dmp
....etc

I want a command(tar) which will let me archive the above directory excluding *.dmp(dump files), *.log(log files) in that directory & in the sub-directories also.

So the archived file doesn't have *.dmp(dump files), *.log(log files) in it.

Pls reply ASAP.

thanks

A solution is to list all files to archive in a file and to use this list as InputList for tar. The corresponfing tar option is -L for AIX.
Code:
cd /home/oracle
find dd0 ! \( -name '*.dmp' -o -name '*.log' \) > /tmp/dd0_file_list
tar cvfL tar_file /tmp/dd0_file_list

For Solaris the tar option to use is -I.
You can also build a list of files to exclude and use the -X tar option

Jean-Pierre.
