Shell Programming and Scripting

Within a script, I want to switch perl executable. I can do this within .bashrc with the alias feature, but the following didn't work when I tried it within a bash script.

Code:

alias perl='perlroot/bin/perl'
which perl # want this to be above perl, but it's still /usr/bin/perl.

Can someone tell me how to get this to work? Thanks!

Remember that the which command searches your PATH variable. Setting up an alias and typing which PERL will not do anything. Which is still going to search your PATH for the file or executable in this case.

Try doing something like this

if (some condition); then
export PATH=/perlroot/bin/perl:$PATH
fi

which perl will find the /perlroot/bin/perl first.
